Chapter Sixteen

“Thanks Maya,” Ginny said with a sigh. “I’ll see you later.”

Maya waved, leaving Ginny and Ajay to return to the florist shop. Ginny’s mind still reeled from the newfound information she had received.

Throughout the rest of the day, the shop was quiet, with only a few customers browsing the colorful displays of flowers and plants.

Ginny busied herself with arranging a bouquet of roses, orchards and other assortments, her hands moving deftly as she selected each stem. As the last customer left for the day, Ginny closed the shop, preparing to head home.

"I still can't believe it," Ginny said, breaking the silence. "I never thought it would be true, that Cynthia was really blackmailing people, let alone Richard.”

Ginny glanced over at Ajay who was grooming himself. "Seems like the past month was a big change for her, she became ruthless." Ajay said as he nibbled on his feathers.

“I know. I wonder what drove her to be so ruthless.” Ginny replied, sighing. "Maybe she felt like she had to be in order to stay atop… I don’t know. I feel like I’m back at square one. I still have more questions than answers.”

“Don’t worry, you will find out everything in time.” Ajay said with a caw sound.

Ginny patted the top of Ajay’s head lightly as she finished cleaning up the shop and locking the doors. They walked out of the shop through the back door and got into Ginny’s car, heading home with the thoughts of the case still floating around in her head.

Once Ginny arrived home, she couldn't shake the feeling of her grandmother's connection to the Moonlit Garden coven. She knew that to solve the case, she needed to delve deeper into their history. Ginny grabbed her grandmother’s journals and placed them on the couch so she could finish scanning through them.

After warming up a quick dinner, she grabbed a bowl of seeds for Ajay who cawed loudly at the sound of the seeds hitting the bowl. She added a few of the cookies he loves as well. As she brought the bowl back to the perch, she placed it in front of him as he fluttered his wings.

“Yum!” He shouted as his beak clanked against the bowl.

Ginny sat down on the couch, taking a few bites of her dinner before she opened up her grandmother’s journals. “Let’s see what secrets we can uncover.” She said aloud.

Ginny sat cross-legged on the couch, surrounded by a sea of old journals and loose papers. The faint smell of lavender and jasmine filled the room as she carefully turned the delicate pages. Her eyes scanned each line for any mention of the Moonlit Garden coven or their activities.

She stayed at it for hours, her back aching from hunching over the journals and her eyes strained in the dim light of her bedside lamp. Ajay had fallen asleep in the silence.

But Ginny was determined to find something, anything, that might help her understand the connection between her grandmother, the coven, and Cynthia's murder.

As she flipped through the pages of a particularly worn journal, a passage caught her eye.
